Independents Day in Epsom
27 May 2010
The Ashley Centre is celebrating independent retailers
on Saturday 3 July 2010 with the first ever Independents Day in the
town.
Independent retailers add personality to the shopping
environment. It is in these stores you can often find that special
gift or receive personalised customer service. However, the
recession has seen a number of independents disappear from our high
street and those that remain are competing in a tough, price-driven
retail environment.
The Ashley Centre wants to show its support of Epsom's
independent retailers with a celebratory day in the town. You can
find many independents throughout Epsom ranging from prominent and
historic Lester Bowden on the high street through to The Ashley
Centre's newest addition, Quest, a new age shop and holistic
centre. Many of the eateries and services in Epsom, including
beauticians and hairdressers are also independent traders.
As part of the 3rd July celebrations, around 40 independents
throughout The Ashley Centre and Epsom will offer shoppers
discounts or entertainment. An eclectic mix of stores are taking
part including jewellers, bridal boutiques, florists and framers
offering a variety of incentives for shoppers ranging from 20% off
in store, through to cup cake making workshops and two for one
offers on gorgeous jewellery items.
The Swanee Band and bands from Epsom's own Realistic Rock!
Academy will be roaming the streets to entertain shoppers, plus
face painters and balloon modellers will keep children entertained.
There will be demonstrations and nibbles in some stores and Radio
Jackie will broadcast live from the market place, with dedications,
requests and giveaways for listeners.
A treasure trail running through the independent stores will
keep families amused. Correctly completed entries can go into a
prize draw to win fantastic prizes including a new guitar courtesy
of Realistic Rock! Academy and £100 for the winner to spend
at their favourite participating independent store!
All participating shops will have an independents day sticker
displayed in their shop window to signal their involvement in the
day's events.
This special day is the time to explore the wonderfully diverse
independent shops that Epsom has to offer, which sets shopping in
the town apart from the everyday high street experience.
